Fixing Mailboxes and Lampposts

This is Eric Elfner posting.  Your mileage may vary, but I've had to do some home improvement projects to keep ours looking nice.  If you want to see what I've done to make them work again, here are some photos I've shared.

These are google photo galleries, so make sure you click the little (i) in the upper right.  This will let you see my write-up about each picture.

Mailbox knocked Down by Snowplow

If your mailbox is trashed, but the post is still good, we've had some good luck replacing the box only.  Sometimes there is a little retrofit of hardware, but the newer boxes are aluminum and don't rust out as quickly.  Contact board@beaumontridge.com to see if they have any available.

Also, my lamppost stopped working correctly after 15 year.  In the past I've just replaced the dusk to dawn sensor (about $7 at Menards.)  But this year it needed a more extensive rebuild.  I did that this fall (2020) and it is only Feb 2021, but I did accidentally hit it with the stream from the snowblower, and it held up nicely.

Beaumont Ridge Yard Lamp Rebuild

I like these sort of projects and I work for beer, so feel free to let me know if you want to talk it through or get some help with the project.

If you would rather just replace them with new, we found the best source in 2015 was BBC Lighting on St. Paul Ave.  The Architectural Review page has some more info about the current specs.
